I just reviewed web stats for one client… traffic is up 20% from November to December, and Monday January 5th the site had 421 visits, the highest single day since August. The growth in traffic is from all sources: Direct traffic, there are more Referring Site Visitors, and visits from Search Engines are up. The increase in traffic over the last week is more than a seasonal fluctuation.
Overall Traffic Search Engine Direct Traffic Referring Sites
November 4,635 1,330 778 2,270
December 5,563 2,066 1,054 2,427
% change +29% +55% +35% +7%
Also I went a bit further and looked at stats from October – January, the last quarter in 2008 and one where the economy really tanked. Surprisingly, during that period, this web site had 15,377 visitors, very healthy for a small site and out of that 12,000 were unique visitors…a huge growth potential. The highest traffic dates were:
November 18: with almost 400 visitors (that was the day the Forbes Life article came out!)
December 10- December 15: these 4-5 days had great traffic, about 250 visitors a day. We had a lot going on during this time frame and it boosted traffic significantly: Wall Street Journal and Travel & Leisure article came out; we did an e-blast announcing a low cost package and we developed the landing page.
But the biggest day was January 5 with more than 400 visitors. Either everyone went back to their office and got online or people were back from the holidays and turned their computers on seeing e-mails from this client (or the e-mail marketing through the free listings), all generated the best day since August.
This integrated effort between PR, e-marketing and targeted search is working well.
